Schmallenberg

With its slate-roofed houses that blend harmoniously into the townscape, its cobblestone streets and quiet corners, Schmallenberg is one of the most beautiful small towns in North Rhine-Westphalia. Find small treasures in the numerous owner-managed specialist shops with personal advice, explore the historic town walk, or indulge in culinary delights in cafés and inns.

Cycling

With the SauerlandRadRing and the Kinderland-Trekkingroute, the Sauerland offers two family-compatible routes for all those who like to cycle in a relaxed and leisurely manner. Both the SauerlandRing with its Hennesee loop and the Kinderland trekking route have a moderate gradient and can be ridden on a touring bike or comfortably on an e-bike. The Bauernland cycle route, the Golddorf cycle route and the Rothaar cycle route are also suitable for e-bikes.

DampfLandLeuteMuseum

The DampfLandLeute Museum (SteamCountryFolk museum) in Eslohe is well worth a visit, it shows the former life and work of the Sauerland people. You will also get to see historical steam and power machines.
The steam days, which always take place on a weekend in May and September, are a special experience. Admission is free with the Schmallenberger Sauerland Card.

Our insider tip!

Take a lovely relaxing walk around the Schwimmberg.
Enjoy the beautiful views. Sit comfortably on one of the benches and take in the surroundings in peace, the hues of the fields and trees or the rustle of the wind through the corn. But of course it is also enjoyable in winter, when the contours are softened by a layer of snow. A beautiful walk in any season.
Another little tip!
Bring your binoculars! You’ll be able to get a better look at the deer, fox or red kite that might come into your field of view.
